Image Search

It’s not often that I find a website that does what I think it should do rather than what others have acclimatised themselves from expecting.

One such example happened just a few minutes ago. I have an image, and don’t know where it comes from, and what I wanted to do is to search the web and to find the artist and the name of the image.

Now if you go to Google Image Search, you get a box to type text into. And if you go to things like Flickr, again textual search upon tags, file names, words nearby… but not actually a search for the image file.

So imagine my surprise at discovering tineye, and then to upload said obscure art, and for it to return 110 results showing sites that use the image, sites that give a bio of the artist, etc.

So this blog post is a simple “wow” and a pointer to anyone who wants to search for images to go checkout http://tineye.com/
